City Colleges of Chicago

Erick Mendoza

Recent Kennedy-King College graduate Erick Mendoza sure got a kick out of his City Colleges of Chicago experience.

As a two year member of the KKC soccer team (captain his second year), Erick received his associate degree in May 2017. It has been a long trip for Erick, literally and figuratively. He graduated from Morton East High School, and overcame two previous attempts at college, which were halted because of limited resources available to him.

Enter City Colleges of Chicago and Kennedy-King College. Thanks to an academic program that Erick feels was “perfectly structured and has prepared (him) for a 4-year college” and taking advantage of the math lab, advising, and his professors’ office hours, Erick is set to attend Dominican University in the fall and study Psychology (and hopefully play soccer).

With his wife, family and teammates supporting him every step of the way, Erick was able to juggle a very busy schedule and excel as a student-athlete. A member of Phi Theta Kappa, he deeply appreciated the personal touch the faculty and staff at KKC showed him. “You are not just a number,” noted Erick when asked what made KKC and City Colleges of Chicago special.
