City Colleges of Chicago

Pedro Villagomez

Pedro was happy to play soccer while he took classes at Kennedy-King College (KKC), but now he has his sights set on a different goal – getting a PhD in Economics. He has achieved the first step toward that goal by being accepted to the Stuart School of Business at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) to study finance starting in the fall of 2018.

With support from Transfer Center Director Kenyon Douglass, Pedro applied, was accepted, and got a $25,000 transfer scholarship to attend IIT. Not only has Pedro gotten into his dream school, but he’s working full-time as a business analyst for Commonwealth Edison. Even with a flexible work schedule, going to school while working full-time is a challenge, but Pedro says it’s worth it because he’s getting experience on the job that he couldn’t get in the classroom. He also uses the resources available to him at KKC, like the Tutoring Center, for help when he needs it.

Pedro isn’t sure if he will play soccer at his next school, but he’s grateful for the time he spent with teammates at KKC and will always be a Statesman to us!
