In the spring of 2018, Dr. Sarwar received the faculty/staff Luminary Award at Harold Washington College.
Dr. Hamed Sarwar works hard to ensure his biology students don’t just learn the material sufficiently to pass and move on to more advanced courses, but that they are able to understand how biology is a part of their everyday lives.
He challenges and pushes his students with kindness and humor, trying to ensure that everyone learns the material in a way that makes sense to them. He genuinely cares for each of his students and sees his role as activating his students’ interest in the subject, so they enjoy his class and can decide if they’d like to further their studies in biology. He has even borrowed and updated a motto, constantly reminding them to: Look, listen, and learn in his classroom – and then to excel.
As one student said, “He is such an inspirational professor. He is truly passionate about what he teaches, and that makes it interesting to his students. He not only cares about the subject and school, but he cares for his students and our learning ability.”
Another student said, “Mr. Sarwar is an amazing teacher! He cares about the success of his students and believes that each one of them is important. Mr. Sarwar will explain and demonstrate material as many times as needed until you understand.”
