As a father of five and a student who works full-time, Anthony Lyles doesn’t have much free time. He started taking classes at Daley College because it was conveniently located close to his home in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, and that was key as he juggled work, class, and family responsibilities. A U.S. Navy veteran who was working at a detective agency, Anthony was focused on getting his degree in criminal justice. He found the Daley community to be supportive, with faculty and staff who cared about his progress.
Anthony made it a point to work with the Career Center to polish his resume and interview skills as he looked for a job that would pay better and give him more responsibility. And earlier this spring, he got good news: Anthony was hired on full-time at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s’ Hospital of Chicago as Operations Manager of Security Services, making him second in command in the department.
All his hard work, determination, and time management has also paid off in the classroom – it’s taken him more than ten years, but he will earn his Associate of Human Sciences Degree in the summer of 2018. Anthony says he isn’t quite finished with school. Eager to continue his educational journey, he plans on pursuing his bachelor’s degree and eventually a master’s degree, and would like to focus on security management.
