Alisha Carter

Alisha Carter graduated from the Pharmacy Technology program at Malcolm X College in the summer of 2017. Since then, she has taken and passed the PTCB exam (board exam for pharmacy technicians) and is now working as a full-time certified pharmacy technician for Walgreen’s. She’s currently in training to be a lead technician at her store.

Alisha started high school at Von Steuben High School and finished at Truman Middle College. The 24-year-old is married and resides in Chicago’s West Side (Austin), and credits an honest conversation with her mom for jump starting her career in health sciences.

She began taking classes in August of 2016 and completed less than a year later. While at Malcolm X, Alisha took advantage of advising and tutoring to help her through the program.

Prior to enrollment in the program, Alisha was working a part-time job and barely able to support her family. She says that the Advanced Certificate in Pharmacy Technology she earned at Malcolm X College is responsible for her getting into the healthcare field—it’s provided her with the knowledge and skills necessary to not just get a job, but to continue her education and pursue a degree in nursing. She is currently taking pre-nursing courses at Malcolm X and hopes to earn an associate degree in nursing (RN) before transferring to a four-year institution.
