Olubusola Joel-Taiwo

Olubusola Joel-Taiwo’s philosophy is to never stop learning. Taking that to heart, she is working towards an advanced certificate in child development at Truman College, even after she earned her associate degree and basic certification in child development there in 2011. She plans to one day earn a PhD in Child Psychology.

She originally started attending Truman College because it was close to her home, but she stayed because of the professors. “I look forward to going to class. Truman professors truly support their students, and it makes you feel encouraged. They also understand that we all have lives and responsibilities outside of class, and so they do their best to support us however way they can. It makes me feel like I can do this!”

As if she weren’t busy enough, Olubusola is channeling some of her creative energy into writing children’s books. She has already self-published two books, Aubrey the Racehorse and Sammy the Grumpy Garbage Truck, with a third soon to follow. Getting much of her inspiration from children, she is always thinking about new characters and ways to tell stories.

She credits her brother with pushing her and believing in her when she needed it, and he always supports her as she follows her passion.

“I had the story of Aubrey the Racehorse in my head for years. When I told my brother, he insisted that I should make it into a book. Today, I am an author because of him.”
