Aminah Rashid is well on her way to accomplishing her goal of earning a college degree. She currently holds a 4.0 GPA as a full-time Olive-Harvey College student. However, her path to accomplishing her educational goals has not been an easy one.
After her family moved out of Illinois to another state, Aminah learned that many of her high school credits would not be accepted at her new school. She made the decision to become an emancipated minor and drop out of high school, eventually opting to join the Job Corp. Although she earned trade certificates while in Job Corp., she did not earn her GED certificate.
Aminah then enrolled in an online high school program and received her high school diploma only to find out that the program was not accredited. Her next move led her to Olive-Harvey’s free GED program where she enrolled in the summer of 2015.
Aminah took advantage of all the services and resources offered to her while working to earn her GED certificate. She enrolled in both of the Adult Education signature programs: Transportation, Distribution and Logistics (TDL) Bridge and the Gateway Scholars program. She is also a member of the Gateway Scholars club in which she formerly held the position of treasurer.
She earned her GED certificate in February 2016 in time to participate in the Adult Education annual graduation ceremonies in June 2016.
Aminah is currently pursuing an associate degree in logistics at Olive-Harvey College. She frequently volunteers to share her journey with new TDL bridge students in hopes of encouraging them to never give up on their dreams.
